Is time wasted or spent doing this...(opinionated)

Idea 1
Basketball court
Slow motion jump shot
Text: "Is time wasted or spent doing this, or this?"
Shot of playing guitar then studying.
Text: What is the difference? Is it opinionated?

Idea 2
Music - Timing
3 screen split
Guitar/Keyboard/Singing
Unity, Unified, In time

Idea 3
The same time/moment all around the world, time is viewed differently around the world.

I am going to expand on my first idea, but change it slightly.

Treatment
A video portrait of time, or to be specific, different concepts of time. The portrait should be no longer than 1 minute and will be comprised of three videos displayed on three separate vertical screens.  This could include space i.e. the space time continuum, or sayings/phrases concerning time i.e. Time waits for no man.

My initial idea was to explore the idea of time spent vs time wasted, or how to define and draw the line between wasting and spending time. This then evolved into the idea of looking at OCD and the behavior that those affected display.

Shot concepts may include a man walking down a street, touching every post or streetlight, and showing how long it would take someone without OCD to do something compared to how long it would take for someone with OCD to do it. This video portrait will play on the question "Where does the time go?" as some of those affected by OCD don't realise how much time they take (or waste) touching a certain object, or avoiding cracks in the street, indulging in these habits.

I will be using the Canon XF305 camera to record the footage and will be compiling the final product in Adobe Premiere and the effects will be done in Adobe After Effects.

Research

Monk is an american comedy drama about a former homicide detective turned consultant for the police with OCPD - Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. The opening credits display some of the main character's habits.

Extreme OCD CAMP BBC Documentary

Documentary

OCD, how uncomfortable does it make people feel when something isn't right.
Different habits related to OCD: Reading a sentence perfectly, and starting from the beginning if unsatisfactory, repeatedly locking a door, touching surface or object with both hands in the same way.

Close ups, intense detail, macro lens 99mm / macro filter.

I have chosen to shoot myself checking I have locked a door multiple times before going out, thoroughly washing a plate, and trying to read a page of a book perfectly. I will attempt to use motion tracked text to emphasise my point.

Motion tracking failed and have static text on just one or two screens looks tacky, i decided to leave the text out, hoping my point will be easily read.

Evaluation

I haven't used after effects to the best of my ability in this project and it is shown in the footage.
To improve my quality of work and grade, I will work on time management and familiarising myself with DSLR equipment.

  1. You haven't posted anything for more than 6 weeks. What's going on? If you show your development here it will be a lot easier to evidence your process for assessment.
